Sharron McLeod

Sharron McLeod is one of Canada's premiere Jazz vocalists and hosts/produces a weekly Sunday Jazz program on Toronto radio station Flow 93.5. Her musical education began at age nine, including the study of recorder, flute, trombone, piano and voice. Sharron's musical studies deepened in 1978, while at Jarvis Collegiate Institute high school with Beth Zeitlin until 1981. She later studied with Douglas Stewart of the York Winds as a full time music student at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto until 1984.

From 1985 to 1988, Sharron studied voice privately with Liz Naylor. In 1988, Sharron moved to Vancouver, BC and entered private vocal study with Jay Clayton of the Steve Reich Ensemble (Seattle). She also did many workshops with musicians, such as Marilyn Crispell and the New Orchestra Workshop, in the Vancouver area.
After returning to Toronto in 1989, Sharron studied ear training and improvisation with Art Levine from 1989 to 199. During this time, Sharron also made regular appearances at Toronto venues such as Zydeco and Southern Accent, located in fashionable Mirvish Village.

In 1990 Sharron studied at the Banff Jazz Workshop with Rufus Reid, Steve Coleman, Kevin Eubanks, and Stanley Cowell. In addition to her musical studies and pursuits, Sharron was invited to join the volunteer programming staff at CKLN, Toronto's leading alternative radio station, where she produced and hosted her own Wednesday morning jazz radio program, 'Face the Music'. In 1991, Sharron moved to New York City where she studied bebop harmony with Rodney Kendrick and Abbey Lincoln; and became a voice instructor at the New School of Social Research.

Now based in Toronto, Sharron continued her vocal training with renowned counter-tenor Theodore Gentry, throughout 1998. In the spring of 1999, Sharron studied jazz piano with Don Naduriak.

Sharron also has been a regular performer in Toronto's prestigious Du Maurier Downtown Jazz Festival from 1991 to the present time.
